KORA Community Center

“...the next buddha will not take the form of an individual. The next buddha may take the form of a community, a community practicing understanding and loving-kindness, a community practicing mindful living.”
— Thich Nhat Hahn

About KORA

Baja California Sur is a meeting place of many diverse cultures.

KORA Community Center seeks to provide a place where all these rich traditions can come together and share their wisdom in a respectful and compassionate environment.

KORA deeply honors the diverse perspectives and experiences that each individual and community brings to the circle.

We are all beings together on this earth. We are interdependent and have more things in common than we do differences. KORA Community is a place where we can explore what we share in common, and learn from the ways we are different, while being in joyful service and compassionate support to one another and to our greater community.

We all have something unique to offer, and together we can create something special and unique that represents us all.

The Foundation of Community

MINDFULNESS

To live well, we need to know our own mind.

The meditation programs at KORA can help us to find the stability and clarity necessary to embark on or deepen this process. When we know our own minds and motivations we can better understand, communicate with and be of service to those around us.

INCLUSIVITY

At KORA we welcome people of all backgrounds, belief systems, cultural origins and economic circumstances.

We seek to understand and integrate the diverse experiences and perspectives that each of us bring to the community so that we can all benefit and grow.

At KORA, we listen to each other and learn.

UNITY IN DIVERSITY

At KORA we realize that intercultural exchange can be a challenge, and we choose to view this as a strength that can profoundly enrich our community.

Celebrating diversity and the richness it brings is one of our core values. By acknowledging and honoring our differences, we understand one another better and strengthen that which connects us.

Our Mission

At KORA, we approach the alleviation of suffering through actions addressing its roots and promoting an environment of inclusivity, harmony and balance.

It is our deepest intention that everyone in the community experiences KORA as a place to connect with others in a kind and compassionate atmosphere.

We work towards this aim in all of our activities: spiritual, educational, artistic, cultural and environmental. Our projects are outward expressions of our core values in action.

Kora holds weekly practices and monthly gatherings throughout most of the year, as well as workshops, retreats and seminars where we gather to learn, grow, share and celebrate together.

Additionally, we present and promote educational programs, musical events, cultural activities and interchanges and agricultural and environmental development projects.

Through our activities, KORA can be of joyful service to our community while actively promoting connection, compassion and mindfulness in its members.

About the Stupa

The Enlightenment Stupa in El Pescadero B.C.S. is the seed from which the KORA Community Center was born, and is the heart of the KORA Community.

Its construction and consecration was completed in December of 2022, after more than 25 years of dedication and efforts to realize her vision by Rebecca Silva.

Read more about Rebecca's amazing story, what a Stupa is, and why we chose the name KORA for the community in the entries  below.
